No problem with this deal at all. Hopefully we start seeing more of Peckham hitting and playing shutdown instead of hitting some guy on the other side of the rink while the puck is being cycled in his own zone.

I look forward to another year of him taking penalties at the absolute worst time.

If he does turn into another Greene, great. If he doesn't, 1YR contact doesn't hurt.

Richard Cloutier: Teddy Peckman Returns
- Maxbone

I don't yet put Jeff Petry in the category of NHL solid dependables, but point taken.

I don't mind seeing Peckham back. It's a solid deal that will at least drum up competition for the last spot or two at training camp.

I think our greatest need is a true two-way defender. Petry may become that, but the guy we need should not only be physical, but also have the smarts and skating to not get caught in our own zone. With Whitney injured, he can't be that guy either.

I suspect we have

Smid-Petry
Whitney-Sutton
Schultz-Schultz
Potter and Peckham as the spares switching with Sutton.

Plante and Teubert start in the AHL but if they show well then we see one of Potter/Peckham hitting the waiver wire.

So the ask for Weber is something like:
2 top 6 forwards
1 top 4 Dman
2 prospects
2 1st rounders

I'd offer:
Hemsky
Pajaarvi
Klefbom
Gernat or Musil
2 1sts (maybe just one)

Assumes Weber is signed to 10 year ~80 mil contract.
Any takers?

It would have to be 2 1sts, but we would also have to get the opportunity to talk to Weber before the trade is done to see if he intends to extend here

I wouldn't do it unless he was already signed. waay too much risk to lose Klef and Gernat or Musil (let alone two firsts) if it's not guaranteed that he's staying

I'm not sure how they can justify asking for twice as much as his offer sheet compensation would be (2 top 6 forwards + top4 D + 2 prospects >>> two 1sts).

Webs is a great Dman but is simply not worth that asking price.

Honestly I don't know what these Gm's that have these star players expect. Sounds like all the talks are dead because Gm's are simply asking too much for guys.

That doesn't make any sense though.

If Weber had any interest in signing with us on those terms (10 years, 80 million), all we'd have to give up is four 1sts.

If he doesn't want to sign an offer sheet with us, then he wouldn't want to sign a contract with us. It's that simple
